Approximate Quantity is one kind of fuzzy quantity expression, is a fuzzy set of quantity which is composed by some typical members and some edge ingredient. The productional root of approximate quantity closes to the unclear boundary of objective thing, the limilation of human cognition, the efficiency of human cognition and the need of communication. During the process in which object recognizes the subject world and at the same time impacts on it, a result comes into being, approximate quantity occurs when such result gives responce to language. Because the communication demand is the important reason of the approximate quantity's production, this research also summarized approximate quantity's pragmatic function, such as efficiency, the cooperation, politeness and ego protection.Classfying approximate quantity from the degree of fuzzy linguistics is a comparatively scientific way. We can classify approximate quantity into approximate quantity expressions with calculable fuzzy hedges and approximate quantity expressions without calculable fuzzy hedges based on the amount of fuzzy hedges. The former can be classified into prefix fuzzy hedges approximate quantity and suffix fuzzy hedges approximate quantity according to the position of quantity fuzzy hedges. Prefix fuzzy hedges approximate quantity and suffix also can be classified as the upper and lower limit fuzzy, the upper limit fuzzy and the lower limit fuzzy. Moreover, the approximate quantity expressions without calculable fuzzy hedges still can be divided into numeral only or quantity combination used to express the approximate quantity, quantity fuzzy words used to express and "you有" sentence pattern usde to express.Semanteme boundary for approximate quantity expression of Modern Chinese can be explained by membership of Zadeh's Fuzzy Set Theory. For a specific proposition, higher membership is related to closer to 1, on the contrary, lower membership gets closer to 0. In other words, the membership of a typical element is equal or close to "1", the membership of an edge element is close to "0". For example, in the proposition that Xiao Wang is around 20 years old, the typical element is "20 years old", whose membership is "1", and the edge element is "15 years old", whose membership is "0.1".
