A questionnaire and an experiment are used to explore the primacy effect of names. In the view of the influence on perception of personalities , interpersonal attraction ,and reliability by names, we use a questionnaire designed by ourselves to analyze the names' effect, presenting different degree of uncommon, refined ,and positive. There are 759 participants from Nanjing Universities. In the view of the influence on perception of facial attractiveness by names, we use a experiment to analyze different kinds of names' effect. There are 60 participants also come from Nanjing Universities. The conclusions drawn from this study are as follows:(1)The effection of different kinds of names: The degree of names' uncommon,refined and positive can significantly influence the evaluation on personalities characteristics by others. Especially the uncommon ,vulgar ,and negative names scored significantly higher than the common , elegant ,and positive names on some negative characteristics , such as emotional and selfish; the common, elegant ,and positive names scored significantly higher than the uncommon, vulgar ,and negative names on interpersonal attraction ,reliability and facial attractiveness.Furthermore ,the common, elegant and positive names can significantly improve the evaluation of facial attractiveness, in contrast , the uncommon and vulgar names would reduce the evaluation.(2)The effection of name-gender orientation: The masculine name scored higher than the feminine name on some characteristics,such as independence and exocentric, but lower than the feminine name on sensitive, traditional ,and emotional characteristics.The feminine name scored higher than the masculine name on the evaluation of interpersonal attraction, especially for different refined and positive names; The uncommon and vulgar feminine name scored higher than the masculine name on the evaluation of reliability; The positive and negative feminine name scored higher than the masculine name on the evaluation of facial attractiveness.From this study, we can conclude that names can indeed produce the primacy effect firstly . Secondly, the degree of names' commoness , elegance and positiveness are indeed influence the evaluation of personalities, interpersonal attraction, reliability, and facial attractiveness. Generally, people who has a more common ,or elegant, or positive name would achieved a better evaluation . Thirdly,names can produce halo effect . Finally, different gender orientation names activated gender stereotypes.
