The Characteristics Of Empathy Plasticity Beliefs Of Higher Vocational Students And Their Relationship With Empathy Level And Prosocial Tendencies

Empathy is a hot issue in the field of moral development psychology.In recent years,the intensive study of empathy has led researchers to pay attention to a new research focus of empathy,which is belises about the malleability of empathy.Belises about the malleability of empathy refers to the belief that empathy is not born, fixed,but evolving and can be shaped.On the belief about the malleability of empathy,the existing studies mostly focused on the theory of empathy, the characteristics of adolescent empathy from the point of view.However these studies paid little attention to belises about the malleability of empathy, and didn’t reveal the characteristics of vocational college students belises about the malleability of empathy and the relationship with empathy level, prosocial tendency.Due to the lack of research on belises about the malleability of empathy,this study contains two parts.The first part of the study is to revise the existing theories of empathy scale.The second part of the study tools theories of empathy scale, basic relativistic scale (BES) and prosocial tendencies measure for adolescent. The subjects of this research were 736 vocational college students students. And the purpose of the study was to investigate the characteristics of belises about the malleability of empathy of vocational college students and the relationship with empathy level and prosocial tendency. The research showed that:(1)Revised theories of empathy scale has good reliability and validity, and it can be used as a research tool.(2)There is a significant difference in the grade of the belises about the malleability of empathy of vocational college students, and the belises about the malleability of empathy of the second and third grade students is significantly stronger than that of the first and fourth grade students.(3)There was a positive correlation between belises about the malleability of empathy and empathy level, which included cognitive empathy and emotional empathy. And there is a significant positive correlation between belises about the malleability of empathy and prosocial tendency in vocational college students, which included disclosed prosocial tendency,anonymous prosocial tendency,altruistic prosocial tendency,compliant prosocial tendency,emotional prosocial tendency and urgency prosocial tendency.The belises about the malleability of empathy of vocational college students is a predictor of empathy level and prosocial tendency.(4)The empathy level of vocational college students played a partial mediating role in the relationship between belises about the malleability of empathy and prosocial tendency. Belises about the malleability of empathy can directly affect the prosocial tendency of vocational college students.And belises about the malleability of empathy could also effect on the prosocial tendency of vocational college students by empathy level.In conclusion,empathy level was one of the most valid predictive factors of prosocial tendency of vocational college students, and played a partial mediating role in the relationship between belises about the malleability of empathy and prosocial tendency.
