Appropriate anxiety can promote the improvement of personal efficiency and the realization of goals, but excessive anxiety will bring many adverse effects to individuals, such as damaging social function, reducing academic achievement.Research showed that anxiety could affect one’s response to the outside world.Individuals with high anxiety levels were more difficult to have prosocial behavior tendencies(Stoltenberg et al.,2013).In addition, the reduction of that tendency caused by anxiety was also affected by other factors, such as the positive correlation between empathy and prosocial behavior tendency had been proved(Kamas & Preston,2021;Scaffidi et al.,2022),which could affect the expression of anxiety on prosocial behavior tendency. This study intended to study the relationship between college students’ anxiety and prosocial behavior tendency, and the role of empathy between them.According to previous studies, emotion regulation factors were also important factors. Therefore, the variable of emotion regulation self-efficacy was introduced to further investigate its role in the relationship between empathy mediated anxiety and prosocial behavior tendency.Based on this, group counseling was used to further verify the effects of anxiety, empathy and emotion regulation self-efficacy on College Students’ prosocial behavior tendency. This study used State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Scale,Interpersonal Reactivity Index-C Scale,Regulatory Emotional Self-Efficacy Scale,Prosocial Tendencies Measure Scale to investigate 907 college students in Shandong Province, and conducted SPSS 22.0and Process analyzing the questionnaire data. The main conclusions were as follows:(1)Anxiety could significantly negatively predict prosocial behavior tendency.(2)Empathy could mediate the relationship between anxiety and prosocial behavior tendency, and reduced the negative impact of anxiety on prosocial behavior.(3)Emotional regulatory self-efficacy could regulate the relationship between anxiety and empathy, and reduced the negative effect of anxiety on empathy. The influence of low emotional self-efficacy is more prominent than that of high emotional self-efficacy.(4)The intervention on anxiety, empathy and emotion regulation self-efficacy through group counseling could effectively improve college students’ prosocial behavior tendency. To sum up,this study explored the relationship between anxiety, empathy, prosocial behavior tendency and emotion regulation self-efficacy,and verified the negative predictive effect of anxiety on prosocial behavior tendency, the incomplete intermediary effect of empathy in anxiety and prosocial behavior, and the regulatory effect of emotion regulation self-efficacy on the first half path;Through group counseling, the relationship between variables was empirically tested, and it verified that intervening anxiety, empathy and emotion regulation self-efficacy could effectively improve college students’ prosocial behavior tendency.
