Research On The Compilation Of Local Chronicles In The Xikang Area During The Republic Of China

Chorographyis a kind of informative writings which record geographical,social,political,economic,cultural and other aspects about a particular region in a given period,it is the special product and heritage carrier of Chinese culture.The establishment of Xikang province have already vanished in nowadays,the chorography of this area truthfully recorded the historical process that the province develop from nothing,the people from loose to system and the region from the border to the hinterland.The chorography of Xikang,as it were,are a part of chorography of borderland.As the media which made people knew the Xikang province,it is also an important carrier of the history writing of Xikang.Due to the introduction of Western science and technology,the gradual reform of politics,economy and culture in the period of the Republic of China,it would be bound to affect the slow transformation of Xikang chorography's content,compiling Idea and the way.As an important achievement of Xikang culture,the study of the chorography is still not comprehensive and thorough in nowadays.This paper explore comprehensive and system about Xikang chorography which based on previous research results of Xikang chorographies and using some chorography document of Xikang.The area of Xikang still regarded as a marginal frontier at the late Qing Dynasty and early theRepublic of China,will reflect the area of Xikang how to complete the process which inland-changing and Sinicization.The processing can be divided into four stages:the first stage is 1912-1927,at this time,the situation of Xikang was unstable,there has no position in China,So almost no chorography.1927-1938 is the second stage,as a sign of Liu Wenhui took over the Xikang,the area begans the process of modernization and gradually get on the right path,the chorography was written by Xikang gentries stayed in Beijing and the officials and scholars who came into Xikang.In the third stage 1939-1945,The government moved westward to Chongqing with the outbreak of the war of resistance against Japan.The authorities of Xikang Complete provinciate work and merged Ya'an and Ningyuan into Xikang province and start a planned,systematic development by took the advantageous geographical superiority.The local chronicles work also received extensive attention as a part of the development overall layout.The quantity of the chorography and the organization has been increased,the quality of the chorography also improved.In the fourth stage 1946-1949,after the victory of Anti Japanese War,because of the government moved back to Nanjing and the outbreak of the war of Liberation,the chorography work of Xikang province has been slowed down.The chorographies started a rapid development period when enter into the second stage,then became a good tendency which coexistence of simplicity chorographies and complicated chorographies,the official and private writings in the third stage.Because of the wide range of Xikang alteration around the establishment of the province,the characteristics of chorographies in two period seem obvious different.This paper will put study into the background that is the establishment of Xikang,the frontier territory of politics has grown up and the outbreak of Anti Japanese War,discuss the issues of the situation,motivation of compilation,the style and classified catalogue of Xikang chorography.Meanwhile,use the individual cases give consideration to the specific compilation situation of county annals.Hope the study not only research the universality and particularity of Xikang chorography,but also can restore the compilation situation of Xikang chorography to a certain extent.So,This paper has divided into 5 parts.The chapter of Introduction introducts the range of study,the sources of the paper and the research method,recalls the history of academic-research.The first and second chapters based on the intermediate point of the establishment of Xikang,respectively expatiates the two batches of the Republic of China on the historical background,the conditions,profiles,features with the clue of time.In third chapter,the auther will follow the point of view of the value,the insufficient and the writing motivation to discuss the function and position's transition of Xikang.The fourth chapter has two case which aim at the Local Records of Luding County which finished before the establishment of Xikang province and other two Local Records:Local Records of Xichang County and Local Records of Lushan County both finished after Ya'an and Ningyuan merged into Xikang province.The comparative study is between Local Records of Xichang County and Local Records of Lushan County.The fifth chapter is summarize and supply unfinished comments which solve the unconsidered problem in former chapters.
