Production And Trade Of Shaanxi Cotton Cloth In The Qing Dynasty

Cotton cultivation in China has a long history.It has been introduced to Shaanxi in the Song and Yuan Dynasties and then greatly developed during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.The trade of cotton is also boosted in the Qing Dynasty.Firstly,this paper introduced the development of cotton cultivation industry in Shaanxi before the Qing Dynasty.Then,the cotton cultivation industry in Shaanxi was investigated from the both perspectives of development process and spatial differences.Later,this paper focused on the population distribution,the demand for cotton and the cotton production in different regions in Shaanxi during the Qing Dynasty based on the supply and demand for cotton.The cotton trade was divided in two angles.From the perspective of space,the cotton trade was divided into Guanzhong market,northern Shaanxi market and southern Shaanxi market.From the time point of view,it was divided into the early Qing Dynasty,the Qing Dynasty and the late Qing Dynasty.In addition,the paper discussed the factors that affected the cotton trade market in Shaanxi,such as road construction,urban organization and business organization.Finally,the cotton trade in Shaanxi in the Qing Dynasty was examined thoroughly.
