Yungang Grottoes was built in the Northern Wei Dynasty,formerly known as WuZhoushan grottoes.In Jiajing period of Ming dynasty,due to the construction ofYungangbao in Wuzhou mountain,the name was changed to Yungang Grottoes.The Yungang Grottoes temple is one of the largest extant ancient Grottoes inChina.It is famous for its large scale,various themes,fineness and rich content.It'sdifferent from other early Grottoes in the typical Royal statues.It shows from differentsides the innovation and development of Chinese Grottoes art from the middle of the fifthCentury to the early sixth Century.It has the irreplaceable historical,artistic,scientific andappreciation values.It is not only today's important material for understanding andstudying ancient China's society,politics,economy,culture,art and religion,but also aphysical example illustrations of ancient Chinese and Western cultural exchanges.The Wuhua cave refers to the 9th,10th,11th,12th,and 13th caverns of Yungang.It isfamous for its elegant,rich connotation,brilliant color and the fine decoration of themurals and statues.Due to the long-term effects of environmental factors such as windsand,strong sunlight radiation,intense change of temperature and humidity,dust pollutionand so on,in Wuhua cave appears problems like weathering and shedding.In addition,inrecent years,the humidity and rainfall in the grottoes are large,the diseases aredeveloping in some part of the murals which seriously threatens the long-termpreservation and display of the existing murals,and is urgently needed for protection and reinforcement.
