Yungang Grottoes is the brand new place for the first large-scale artistic expression after the introduction of Mahayana Buddhism into China.Buddhas,Bodhisattvas,and Disciples are the main images of the Yungang Grottoes.In addition,they are the various figures of the patron saint of Dharma.They are the symbol of the universe where the Dharma is omnipresent and omnipotent.The patron saint of Dharma,also known as the Tianlong Ba Bu and the Eight kinds of beings,namely The highest of the six kinds of rebirth,Dragonspirits,Yaksha,Ganmao,Ashura,Kalouro,Tinnaro and Capricorn.At the beginning,the Tianlong Ba Bu came from the ancient Hindu mythology and the belief gods of Brahmanism.These pagan gods were absorbed by Buddhism,and eventually became the Buddhist Dharmapala.The descriptions of the patron saint of Dharma in the Buddhist scriptures,such as the Battle of Emperor Shi and the King of Ashura,Kalouro(Dapeng Golden-winged Bird)feed on the Dragon,and the music is celebrated by Musician who supports Buddha.The Gods guard the Buddha and other mythological stories are transformed into artistic expressions.It is a wonderful feature of the Yungang Grottoes Mahayana Buddhism art,and it is also the artistic charm of early Chinese Buddhism.The research object of this paper is the sculptural statues of the Dharmapala of the Yungang Grottoes.The purpose is to summarize the representative images of the Tianlong Ba Bu in the Yungang Grottoes and analyze their development and evolution.
