This paper mainly takes the history of the "yi min" painting research since the 20th centuryas the material, with the "yi min" of the 17th century as an example. It tries to explore thecognition and orientation of the "yi min" groupin the multi-cultural context, and think about theturn and development of Chinese historiography in methodology in the past hundred years fromthe angle of nationality, social class and society and so on.The "yi min" problem itself is pretty complicated. The different positions of the "yi min"and the rulers of the Qing Dynasty make the "yi min" and the "er chen" in their dominantdiscourse somewhat different from each other. At the beginning of the 20th century, the "yi min"and the "er chen" inevitably met the trouble of being chosen and accepted when they are includedin the writing of art history as a fixed expression. In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic ofChina, with the slogan of "Exorcise the tartar and restore the Chinese",the strong nationaldiscourse made the AFD become an important force in "opposing the Qing Dynasty and theManchu",while the "er chen" became the typical traitors featuring "betrayal and disloyalty".Theantagonistic relationship between the two sides was generally accepted at that time, and the fixedcognition was gradually formed.Since the founding of the people's Republic of China,it has advocated:"all ethnic groups inthe people's Republic of China are equal, and promote the solidarity and mutual assistance." Theprevious national discourse was no longer powerful, and replaced by the"class discourse" ofMarxism. It emphasized the study of history by the method of class analysis, which makes thediscussion of the "yi min" included into the consideration of the relationship between theindividual and the times.Furthermore,it began to pay close attention to the social background ofthe adherent, the "anti-tradition" of the "yi min" is connected with the literary and artisticinnovation of the new era.At this time,The "yi min" got a new position. After the reform and opening up,western historiography view began to infiltrate into China, which promoted people to pay more attention to the real life of the "yi min".A new perspectivewith universal skepticism promoted people gradually to realize the problems existing in classanalysis and try to look at history from a developing and concrete perspective. It is against thisbackground that the study of the adherent has reached a new level. The complexities of the "yimin" in real life and the multiplicity of their identities has come to be realized.Conceptual fixedcognition is gradually broken with the depth of research.Based on this, the narrative model with universal relevance between the identity and style of the "yi min" is to be questioned.Since the 20th century, the feasibility and validity of thedefinition criteria of theme and works proposed by academic circles should also be included inthe discussion.Furthermore,it is worth pondering whether there is a so-called "style of the "yimin" among the groups of painters. If it exists, can it form a regular system of symbols?...
