Chinese traditional painting is called "Dan Qing".Dan and Qing are two pigments of painting,and later they become the synonym of Chinese traditional painting,which shows the close relationship between Chinese traditional painting and color.The unique style of Chinese painting exactly accords with the concept of traditional colors.Chinese painting emphasizes the role of colors,and the understanding and exploration of Chinese painting towards "color" is clearly presented in many principles like "five concepts about color",and the "application of colors according to categories" in "Six Methods",as well as the"Chinese ink dividing into five colors",through which a set of unique notions about color are produced.The "application of colors according to categories" by Xie He in his "Six Method"forms the foundation for the color concept of Chinese traditional painting in general,and creates a criterion for the color layout of this genre.In the development of the Chinese traditional color application,Chinese painters don't only focus on the innate color of object,though based on the nature but not simple representing the nature,and instead it emphasizes the application of "imagery" in presenting objects.Chinese paintings always proposes the unity between "imagery",and&"object",and the "imagery" concept is also formed in terms of color application.The thesis will analyze the color concept about Chinese traditional painting,as well as the cause of this concept,and study the manifestation of "imagery" in traditional painting.Based on the application of color in different ages,it describes the changes of traditional color concepts,and its cause as well.Then,taking the Spring Excursion of Lady Guoguo as an example,it tends to analyze the historical and cultural background of this painting briefly,and analyze the expression of imagery color in this painting.Under the background of Chinese traditional culture,the color application of traditional paints focuses on expressing the individual emotions of painters,and it is the imagery color that fully expresses the inner feelings of those artists.With the development of the age,the changes of people's thoughts,and aesthetic values,as well as the influence of western arts,Chinese traditional painting has finished the transformation towards modern painting.While studying traditional colors,we should take in oversea experience,and combine it with imagery colors,so as to achieve further development.In addition,while retaining the style and characteristics of color in Chinese traditional painting,we should also integrate it with modern arts and cultures,to follow the trend of times.
