The Use Of White Space In Sculpture

"Leave blank",in this article refers to leaving a blank in the work of art,which is a kind of artistic expression commonly used in all kinds of Chinese art.In this paper,we focus on the "blank" approach to explore the aesthetic significance of "blank" and analyze the use of’blank" in the sculpture.The first chapter of the essay tries to find the theoretical basis for the concept of"blank" by taking the Chinese Taoism philosophy,the Buddhist thought and the art theory of the western art theorist Arnheim.The second chapter tries to find examples for the theory and deepen readers’ perceptual understanding of "blank”through analyzing the use of "blank" in some art forms of different ways of perception,which leads to the ’blank".In the part of the sculpture,it is divided into three parts.The third chapter mainly takes the ancient Chinese sculpture as an example.From the initial production mode of the sculpture and the simple combination of statues of Buddha statues of Yungang Grottoes and the stone sculptures of Huo Quanguang,White "relationship and use.The fourth chapter starts from the understanding of the physical space in the traditional western sculpture and the breakthrough of the physical space by some sculptors in practice after the modernism,which leads to the concept of "blank space" in the sculpture.In the fifth chapter,through some case analysis,the meaning of "blank" is extended from three aspects:the way of perception of artistic creation,the invisible of sculptor and the disappearance of sculptures respectively.The sixth chapter is the conclusion of the whole thesis.
