The Ethnic Issues In Myanmar And The Security Of The Southwestern Frontier Of China

Myanmar is located in the southwest of China,it borders on Tibet and Yunnan provinces of China in the north and northeast,Laos and Thailand in the east,India and Bengal in the west.It reaches south to Andaman Sea and is close to the Bay of Bengal.It has an very important geographical position as it locates at the confluence of South and Southeast Asia and China.The ethnic issue of Myanmar influences not only the domestic situation but also the security environment of southwest China.The ethnic issue of Myanmar is an old problem.The progress of national fusion was slow and the communication and development between nations had obstacle because of failing of forming national unity.The national consciousness awakened at the process of struggling against colonial oppression of Britain.Ethnic leaders agreed on the Panglong Agreement that establishing the Union of Myanmar in Panglong conference in 1947.After independence of Myanmar,ethnic contradictions tended to fiercer,the ethnic armed groups began to confront the power of government as the “Panglong spirit” was not fulfilled.The ethnic issues were not solved and influenced the unity and stability of the Myanmar.Myanmar’s ethnic conflicts caused by ethnic problems brought many negative events such as border causalities,drug infestation,refugee flows,and so on.It is not only threatens our southwest border security,affect the construction of the southwest energy channel,but also poses challenges to the “One Road,One Belt” strategy.Recently,the big powers take action on Myanmar frequently.They all devotes to enhance their influence on the country.We should learn and analysis these policies,take feasible strategies.
