The Eastward strategy refers to the focus of Russia's foreign strategy moving to the east,including Central Asia,the Far East and the Asia-Pacific region.Russia is located in the Eurasian continent,the inimitable geographical environment has given Russia inimitable traditions of history and cultural.Since ancient times,Russia has change the direction of diplomatic for several times,just like a "pendulum".After the end of the Cold War,Russia had attempt to get close to the west,but finally failed,then its direction of diplomacy began to turn east again.At the beginning of the administration,Putin had already said that in order to achieve the national renaissance,russia must take advantage of "Oriental power."In 2012,Putin was re-elected Russian president.He proposed the "Eastward strategy",objective of which is changing the focus of diplomacy to the east,and developing the ecnomic of the Far East.He also announced establish the Far East Development Department.In 2014,Ukraine became the focal point of the strategic competition between the United States,Europe and Russia.The strategic conflict between two sides intensified,Russia's strategic space in west has been constantly compressed.This has further contributed Russia change the focus of strategic to the east,and continuously strengthen relations with countries and regional organizations in Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.At the same time,in the implementation process,the Eastward Strategy is also facing series of constraints and challenges,to overcome these difficulties and effectively push forward the Eastward strategy is significant to the development of Russia.The Eastward Strategy is a comprehensive national development strategy,which focuses on seeking the development of the eastern region and enhancing Russia's influence in the Asia-Pacific region,on both domestic and international levels.But the Eastward strategy of Russia does not mean ignoring the West,it means pay close attention to the West and enhance the concern of the East at the same time.All of this are survice for the Russian national interests.
