Research On The Impact Of Social Stratification On Social Participation In The Elderly

In the context of China's aging population,it is inevitable to develop the aging cause and carry out the construction of "active aging" and related research.The study on social participation of the elder is an important part of research and society construction.At present,the domestic scholars has three limitations for the research of this problem: First,for the old definition of this group,scholars emphasized on the "ageing" is "social groups" too much,paying less attention to their social participation willingness and huge social value of their social participation while describing the old.Second,they regard the elderly as a homogeneous group gradually breaking away from society and there are less stratification study of social participation of the elderly.Most of current researches exist have these following shortcomings: Their stratification systems are scattered,and the social participation definition is unclear,which fails to effectively reveal the differences of the elderly,and cannot promote the formulation and implementation of relevant policies for the elderly.Thirdly,their main research is not empirical researches but theoretical researches.This study based on the Sampling survey on the living conditions of the fourth Chinese urban and rural elderly(2015),which have much data about the old's social stratification and social participation.This research can not only make up the blank in the research of stratification in theory but also make the Social participation research of the elderly more in a deep and meticulous level.Finally,it can also optimize theoretical basis for the development of the cause of aging in China to help market forces and public welfare institutions reducing the negative effects of aging,which is significant.The author defines the elderly society participation as the elderly's(60 years old and above)behavior patterns of achieving self-worth through the social labor and social activities in the process of social interaction in this paper.The author defines the social participation behavior of elderly people from three aspects: economic participation,political participation and participation of activities about material culture and spiritual culture,stratifying the old from the three latitudes of "power","wealth" and "prestige" to study the influence of social stratification on their social participation in this study.The paper can be divided into four parts: the first part is the literature review and the research ideas of this paper.In the second part,the concept of social stratification and social participation in the elderly is defined,the relevant analysis dimensions is designed and the research hypothesis is put forward.The third part is the exploration about the influence mechanism of social stratification on social participation of the elderly through regression models.The fourth part is the discussion and summary of the analysis results,and gives corresponding suggestions.This study have these following conclusions: The wealth,prestige and power level of social stratification still play an important role in influencing the social participation of the elderly,among which reputation has the most extensive influence.In addition to the stratification factors,factors such as age,gender,residence and health status also have some impact on the social participation of the elderly.
