With the New Curriculum Reform,the National Department of Education pays more attention to develop students' learning ability.The teaching method of geography in Middle School also faces new challenges.As a result,the traditional teaching models could not completely reach the current requirements of the geography teaching.In order to meet the demand of world development and to promote the teaching quality of geography in Middle High School,researchers and teachers strive to explore appropriate teaching models and methods.Therefore,the author applies “Essential Signal” method to the geography teaching in middle high School.The “Essential Signal” method is founded by Shatalov,an educator of the former Soviet Union.It aims to use simple symbols,key words,graphic forms to simply the complicated knowledge.By using these logical relationships of knowledge,it can reveal the nature and regularity of things and improve students' learning efficiency.The application of the “Essential Signal” method to geography teaching in Middle High School makes positive effects in stimulating student's interest,improving their learning efficiency,and making them well-developed.This paper mainly states three aspects.First of all,the paper summarizes the background,purpose,and the significance of the “Essential Signal” method,and then introduces its essence from the perspective of Psychology and Constructivism.Secondly,the paper sums up the rules and application problems of “Essential Signal” method by referring to some geography teaching cases and experiences.The author discusses the detailed application of the “Essential Signal” method in different teaching procedures,such as: before the class,during the class and review after the class by presenting specific teaching cases.Finally,with the help of the related instruments,the author analyzes the data collected from the pre-test and post-test.The result shows that the application of the “Essential Signal” method to geography teaching is effective in improving students' score and teaching quality.Thus,we should deepen and develop Essential Signal teaching method by taking teaching situation and the characteristics of the subject into consideration.
