In 2006,the standing committee of the tenth National People's Congress passed the revision of the Law on Compulsory Education of the Chinese Republic of China.The law clarified that compulsory education bears the important mission of implementing quality education and improving the quality of basic education in China.Besides,developing students' independent thinking ability,practice and innovation ability are important goals for the overall development of students.Moreover,this law provides an important theoretical basis for the new round of geography curriculum reform,and points out the direction for the reform and development of geography education.The Revised Edition of the Compulsory Education Geography Curriculum Standard(2001)emphasizes that the geography education in middle school should pay attention to the development and utilization of geography practice content,emphasize the discovery of geographical problems from real life,and guide students to cultivate their innovative thinking and practical ability through independent thinking and group cooperative learning.The project-based teaching is based on the teaching background of teaching material knowledge and practical life.Its teaching objective is to cultivate students' innovative thinking and practical operation ability,and to construct a new teaching model of new knowledge and new skills through project activities by means of independent thinking as well as group cooperation and cross-learning.Based on the theory of pragmatism,cognition-discovery learning theory and constructivism education theory,this paper analyzes the research on project-based teaching at home and abroad with the methods of literature research,questionnaire survey and summary induction.Combining the subject characteristics of middle school geography education,the disadvantages of traditional teaching and the nature and concept of geography curriculum standards,this paper analyzes the advantages and feasibility of project-based teaching in middle school geography education.Based on the advantages of project-based teaching and the characteristics of geography,the application process of project-based teaching in geography class is analyzed in detail,and the application strategy of project-based teaching in middle school geography is analyzed from two aspects: “project design” and “student subject”.According to geography teaching materials knowledge and geographical problems in real life,the author of this paper designs relevant teaching cases to better prove the advantages of project-based teaching in the application of geography teaching.Although this paper makes a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the application of project-based teaching in middle school geography teaching,and provides case for reference,but it still needs further research and improvement.In order to promote the development of project-based teaching in geography teaching,it is necessary to further explore and study the knowledge points and economic value of project-based teaching in geography teaching materials.
