Children with Down syndrome,as the most common people of mental retardation caused by genetic factor, their speaking development is obviously tardy, among the speaking development problems, articulation is the most common. Therefore, articulation problem of children with Down syndrome is eager to be solved.Previous domestic studies of articulation problem are based on the overall mental retarded children, there are few studies specially aimed at children with Down Syndrome. This paper studied on articulation problem specially aimed at children with Down Syndrome and try to educationally intervene on a child with Down syndrome. In this study, the evaluation method is used to evaluate the articulation capability, phonological process, oral motor ability of 30 children with Down syndrome in Dalian city to obtain their level of articulation ability and oral action.Afterwards, analysis statistic methods is used to explorer the relationship between articulation ability and oral motor abilities of children with Down syndrome. At the same time, educational experiment method is used to educationally intervene on a child with Down syndrome in nine week in order to explore the proper method which could improve the articulation problem of children with Down syndrome. The following conclusions:1?Articulation ability of children with Down syndrome is lower. The development of their articulation ability follows the same way as those of normal ones, but with much slower pace.As a result, the articulation ability of Down syndrome individuals is inferior to those of normal ones.In addition to that, the Vowels and tones skills of Down syndrome individuals better than the consonants skills of themselves.2?The error rate of phonology in children with Down syndrome is higher. The typical phonological errors include alternative, omissions, additions and distortion,of which the alternative appears the highest frequency, the distortion appears the lowest frequency. The consonant pronunciation in children with Down syndrome appears affrication and retroflex process, and the nasal vowels error and vowel error in vowel pronunciation is relatively high.3?There was no significant correlation between the articulation and oral motor abilities.Articulation ability of children with Down syndrome does not depend on their oral motor ability.4?Targeted language rehabilitation therapy may be treated on specified medical cases to meet expectations.Education and proper care have been shown to improve children with syndrome language skill.According to the research conclusion, this study put forward three suggestions:Firstly, education should follow the principle of early education.Secondly, special schools should attach importance to the implementation of speaking rehabilitation courses. At last, teachers should improve the professional level of rehabilitation.
