In this article, using the method of documentary, questionnaire survey method, mathematical statistics method, experimental approach and other research methods, based on current research, the concept of discovery teaching methods, teaching characteristics, teaching process, combined with the student body Research on quality, technical level of understanding of other aspects of the Table tennis Elective Course of Southwest Jiaotong University Teaching discovery expanded. In this paper, Southwest Jiaotong University 2014 Tennis Elective Courses for teaching study, using random sampling packet mode will select students into experimental class and the control class to fitness, table tennis technique, motivation, ability to cooperate as experimental test content, teaching method and were found using traditional teaching methods of teaching experiment. After a teaching experiment results: Discovering Teaching Method not only help improve student table tennis technical level, but also for the students sense of team work ability, interest in learning table tennis and other effects are particularly evident. In this paper, after the experimental classes and control classes before and after the test results of the comparative analysis method the final the following conclusions:(1) In elective course of table tennis, found that whether discovery teaching method or the traditional teaching methods so that students can effectively improve the level of table tennis. Sideways position in the Forehand, backhand block shot and scores on standard block shot sideways attack techniques Examination Results and block shot and backhand block shot sideways attack technology tested by independent sample T-test results analysis, as significant differences(P<0.05). It follows that discovery teaching methods can be applied to teaching in Optional Table Tennis Course, and compared with traditional teaching methods, the former is more conducive to improving students' skill levels of table tennis.(2) discovery teaching method in the teaching process to explore and practice in accordance with heterogeneous grouping, which enables the students to learn from each other in the process, increase the chances of bilateral exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and create a harmonious, relaxed learning atmosphere, help students team collaboration capabilities, and improve student learning tennis initiative.(3) In the table tennis elective classes, teaching method was found with respect to the relationship between the use of "teaching" and "learning" between traditional teaching contribute to a better treatment of teachers and students. And that the teaching method enables the students to give full play to their ability to think independently, develop a sense of ownership in class to improve their level of table tennis.(4) found that the use of teaching in university Pingpong elective classes, not only enables the student table tennis technique somewhat less technically improved; and avoid too can maximize students' learned helplessness phenomenon.
