Research On The Operation Of College Rugby Clubs In Chengdu

It has been developed for 20 years since the first college rugby team was established at the beginning of the 1990 s in China till the rugby officially became one of the events of the 12 th National Games. Over the 20 years, the sport of rugby developed well and experienced two progresses which are from none to many in China and from amateur to professional. We can see that the growth of colleges rugby clubs have contributed much to the development of the rugby in China. As an important medium and organization for college students to participate this sport,those clubs not only promoted the spread of the rugby among the colleges, but also cultured many talented players for the professional teams. With the spread of the rugby among the public, the policy of national fitness by the government and the emerges of professional running for rugby in China and aboard, the college rugby clubs are facing new development opportunities. At the same time, some problems have been brought up, for example, unscientific management, the instability of the group member, misuse of the funds, the unclear of the basic regulations, etc. if no prompt and effective measures, they will have bad influences on the development of University Rugby.With the method of literature statistics, survey and some other common methods,this study analyzed the history and status of the college rugby clubs in Chengdu, it also discussed about their challenges for development and internal running, and gave the corresponding strategies and advises as a result. The content of this study can be mainly divided into five parts: the first part is the purpose of this study and research significance; the second part is the literature review which included the definition of the rugby clubs based on the theory of sport associations mentioned in this study and related references both in China and other countries;the third part is the “research objects and research methods”, mainly clarified the objects and the research methods used in this study; The fourth part is the main part of this study: first of all, the study summarized that the necessities of rugby clubs in college sport clubs include certain status and cultural value of the rugby clubs take up in college sport clubs and the potential value of the sport of rugby itself; second, the study also analyzed the current situation of the rugby clubs, including its organizing state, structure,activity scale and the students' motivation as well as college rugby's running and facilities,etc. Moreover, the study also analyzed the imperfect operation status of college rugby clubs in Chengdu, indicating that the college ruby clubs in Chengdu now are facing external and internal challenges as well as the clubs' operating mechanism issues: external challenges include the lack of funds and incomplete of hardware facilities; internal challenges include imperfection of management regulations,unscientific personnel training, imperfect supervisory system, unreasonable organization operation; operating mechanism issues include invariability of activities' content and lack of group activities, the need of professional guidance and poor publicity.To promote a healthy development of the college rugby, those problems have to be emphasized and solved. The ways to solve the external problems are to manage the funds scientifically, to make a budget and to make prognosis for the capital flow, meanwhile, to develop the rugby's characters and improve the effectiveness of the group activities. The ways to solve the internal problems include: focusing on team building and the culture of the group managers or leaders' ability and sharing experiences with each other as well as improving the management system. The ways to solve the operating mechanism issues include:strengthening the communication with the social rugby clubs to make common progress; appropriately extending the activity time to increase the frequency of activities and achieve effective allocation of resources as well as the increase of ratio of professional guidance and widening the association publicity approaches to enhance the associations influences.The last part of this study made the conclusion about the research and gave some advises to the development of the college rugby clubs in the future.
