Language skills are developing in the process of using. Conversational skill is an important part of language using ability. It can promote the development of children's emotion, experience, thought, social communication ability and so on. Conversational skill is so important that kindergartens and families should attach importance to children's conversational skill. Current researches are focused on the turn-taking ability, conversation initiation, conversation maintain and repair ability, while it still lacks in-depth research between conversational ability and pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar research. As an important factor of cognitive development, vocabulary also affects children's language development. Therefore this research will use empirical research methods to study the relationship between the vocabulary level and conversational skill.In this study there are a total of 90 children including three age groups selected from the N city as participants. On the vocabulary level test, there are three parts to investigate children's vocabulary breadth:the picture identification test, the picture naming test and D; there are two parts to investigate children's vocabulary depth:the vocabulary association test and vocabulary creation test. In conversational skill, the researchers mainly collected the natural language of children with their partner in the play situation and through the CHILDES (Child Language Data Exchange System) to make labeling and coding for the transcriptional corpus. The CLAN (Computerized Language Analysis) system will compute the number of turn-taking,conversation initiation, conversation maintain and repair. Finally by using the software of SPSS 17.0, the research will analysis different statistical data both children's vocabulary level and conversational skill. Research conclusions are as follows:(1) 4-6 years old children's vocabulary level and the overall conversational skill are increasing with age,4-5 years old develops faster,5-6 years old is at a slow pace;(2) 4-6 years old children's vocabulary level and conversational skill has significant correlation. It's mainly on the significant correlation between vocabulary level and turn-taking ability, conversation maintenance and repair ability;(3) There are different correlations between vocabulary breadth and depth and factors of conversation competence in 4-6 years old children. More specifically to say is that the vocabulary breadth has a significant positive correlation with topic maintenance, repair ability and the turn-taking ability, but the vocabulary depth does not.Based on the above research conclusions, the preschool teachers and parents can learn from the following three aspects to improve the level of young children's speaking ability conversational skill and vocabulary level:(1) paying attention to the close relationship between the vocabulary level and conversational skill; (2) promoting the development of children's vocabulary breadth and paying attention to children's understanding of words; (3) Looking for topics that children are interested to promote the development of vocabulary level and conversational skill. |
