This study explored the the effect of temperament and parenting pattern on social development among 487 4th grade to 6th grade primary school student from. Research results go as follows.Firstly, fathers' authoritative parenting styles negatively predicted emotional problems, conduct problems, hyperactivity, peer problems, and positively predicted prosocial behavior. Mother's authoritarian parenting styles positively predicted emotional problems, conduct problems, hyperactivity, peer problems, and negatively predicted prosocial behaior. The permissive parenting styles of both fathers and mothers' positively predicted conduct problems, hyperactivity, peer problems, and negatively predicted prosocial behavior.Secondly, effortful control negatively predicted emotional problems, conduct problems, hyperactivity, and positively predicted prosocial behavior. Surgency negatively predicted Emotional problems, and positively predicted conduct problems. Affiliativeness positively predicted Emotional problems, prosocial behavior, and negatively predicted Peer problems. Negative Affect positively predicted Emotional problems, Conduct problems, Hyperactivity Peer problems, and negatively predicted prosocial behavior.Finally, besides the independent effects, an additive effect of parenting styles and temperament on children' social development was found. |
