The phenomenon of idolatry is widespread among teenagers, which has an important impact on their mental health as well as their study and life. Therefore,it is an important work of practical significance to understand the status quo of idol worship among teenagers,to deeply understand the causes of idol worship among teenagers, and to guide and intervene them on this basis. At present, most researches explore the phenomenon of idolatry from the perspective of individual factors, such as the influence of attributional style,self-esteem level and personality traits on idolatry.Relatively speaking, there are few studies to explore the influence of external factors on adolescent idol worship.Among the external factors, the parenting style may be a key factor affecting idol worship among teenagers.Parenting styles can affect the relationship between adolescents and their peers, which in turn can further affect their loneliness and thus affect their idolatry. In this study,322 students from Grade 3 of a middle school in Tianjin were selected as the research participants. The Idol Worship Scale,Parenting Style Scale,Peer Attachment Scale and Loneliness Scale were used as measurement tools. The main research objectives are as follows:First,to explore the status quo of adolescent idol worship, parental rearing style, peer attachment and loneliness;Second,to explore whether there are differences in adolescent idol worship, parental rearing style, peer attachment and loneliness among male/female genders and only/non-only child girls;Thirdly,to explore the relationship between adolescent idol worship, parenting style, peer attachment and loneliness; Finally,we examined the mediating effects of peer attachment and loneliness on parental rearing style and adolescent idol worship. The results show that: Firstly, the phenomenon of idol worship among teenagers is mainly for entertainment and social interaction, and the overall degree of involvement in idol worship is relatively low.Parents tended to adopt the two positive parenting styles of emotional warmth and trust encouragement. At the same time, adolescents had a higher level of peer attachment, but showed a higher level of loneliness.Second, girls' scores of idol worship are significantly higher than boys'.Parents are more inclined to trust and encourage the boys and the only child, and more inclined to take the autocratic parenting for the non-only child.Compared with non-only-child,only child's peer attachment degree is higher;Compared with boys and only children, girls and non-only children have higher levels of loneliness.Third,trust-encouraging parenting style can positively predict peer attachment, peer attachment can negatively predict loneliness, and loneliness can positively predict idolatry.Further mediating effect tests showed that peer attachment and loneliness played a chain mediating role between trust-encouraging parenting style and idolatry. In addition, separate entertainment social dimension of idol worship as the dependent variable intermediary inspection found that peer attachment type and loneliness in trust to encourage parenting had chain intermediary effect between social and entertainment, but at the same time, peer attachment type itself on trust encourage parenting plays an intermediary role between social and entertainment, the higher the peer attachment, social score, the higher the entertainment. The results suggest that peer attachment can mediate the increase of social entertainment while it does not reduce loneliness. The results suggest that the trust-encouraging parenting style can help adolescents to build positive peer relationships.Meanwhile, positive peer relationships can reduce adolescents' loneliness and idol worship.
