As said in the new curriculum standard of biology in high school issued by the Ministry of Education in 2003, the biology is based on the research of life and activities, which is fundamental of science. The education of biology should be based on the compulsory education, and then raise students' scientific quality.The design of teaching is indispensable for the whole teaching process, which even could determine the results and effects of a lesson, and also the development of students. To achieve the goals of biology education, there should be more thinking, observation, practice and activities in class for students, which can give a much more colorful and interesting class to students.With the "5E" teaching model established by the researcher of class of biology in American, which was developed from constructivist teaching theory, the education of biology has reached great achievements.The "5E" teaching model that means five "E" in literal meaning, has five steps: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate. The each steps in this model fits the requirements and goals of the new curriculum standard, especially the inquiry learning.Through the documentary and material of "5E" teaching model, i have sorted it systematically, and then want to find a good way to use this teaching model in the high school education. To apply it to practice, I should find the contact and difference between the traditional teaching model and "5E" teaching model.Considering the practicability of the teaching model, I make some improvement and modification of this "5E" teaching model to development a "5E" teaching model with Chinese education characteristics which can provide ways and reference for teachers of biology in high school.
