The Application Of Social Work In The Spiritual Old Age Of The Elderly In Urban Areas

With the progression of economy,the material life of urban oldest-old has improved rapidly,however,their spiritual life is limited by the living environment,family structure,traditional social attitudes and thus turns out as a low-speed development.According to the office of China National Committee on Aging,China would certainly enter into the aging society in 21 st century with 248 million senior citizens predictably in 2020,of which 12.37% are over 80(estimatedly 30.67 million people),leading to a more serious aging society.In contrast with other seniors,the oldest-old are more vulnerable with degenerating body functions,action abilities and language skills which increase the difficulty to take care of and communicate with seniors.At the same time,society,while spending a lot in the material aspects,neglected the cultural side of this concern and thus brought on a situation with sufficient improvements in accommodations and medical treatments for seniors but a severe lack of emotional cares and spiritual supports,to which the frequency of cases involving with insufficient spiritual care is attributable.So how to enhance the quality of elderly care system and meet with seniors' cultural demands has become a major concern.By taking a sample of Qingyuan urban district in Ji'an,thorough questionnaires and talks,the paper conducted a survey towards spiritual cares of current urban oldest-old and analyzed it with a conclusion proposed that esteem,achievement security,emotional cares,entertainment and social activities are four major concerns.Guided by this finding,we conducted group work on six chosen seniors and one case work.Throughout the whole social work intervention,by analyzing the problems concerned I set the plans and goals and adopted Strengths Perspective to encourage the old and help them to attain achievements and content according to their advantages.The deficient and urgent status quo of urban oldest-old is unveiled in the paper and social work intervention is proposed to be a way to improve it,which could further contributes to efficient solutions and localization generalizations in the perspective of social work study.A combination of recognition of individual uniqueness on the basis of respecting different cases,appropriately chosen techniques and methods,flexibilities and varieties of group work can be regarded by the paper as an effective way to solve spiritual care problems for urban oldest-old.
