At present,new curriculum reforms are being massively carried out in Mainland China.As an important part of Chinese,writing is naturally a key of such reforms.But there are still some phenomena as follows.On one hand,it is difficult for students to learn and hard for teachers to teach.On the other hand,students are neither passionate about writing nor skilled in writing,and teaching of writing is inefficient.To sum up,the causes of these problems include unoriginal classroom teaching of writing,failure to stimulate students' interest in writing,inappropriate guidance for writing,difficulties to help students acquire effective learning methods,unscientific assessment of writing and inefficient composition correction.Thus,it is urgent to transform teaching of writing from the perspective of concepts and classroom practices in Mainland China.Hong Kong is not only impacted by advanced Western concepts,but also carries on Chinese cultural traditions.Because of its special historical and cultural origins,it has developed a unique teaching style of writing.For teaching of writing in Hong Kong,efforts are mainly made to develop students' proficiency with Chinese and thinking,foster creative talents,promote lifelong learning and facilitate multifaceted development of students.In Hong Kong,attention is paid to guidance of writing processes and “readers' consciousness” in writing,while corrections of compositions are “student-oriented”.Concerning the predicaments for teaching writing in Mainland China,some lessons may be drawn from Hong Kong studies for more breakthroughs and innovations.In this paper,the study is carried out based on following parts by literature review,case analysis and questionnaire survey.Part 1 is the introduction.At first,research background is clarified,and the objective of examining teaching of writing in Hong Kong is to learn from each other's strengths to make up for deficiencies,which is a requirement for curriculum reform and a new idea for improving students' writing skills.Subsequently,innovations of this paper are illustrated in combination with current research on teaching of writing home and abroad.In Part 2,a brief introduction is made to Hong Kong's teaching system for writing with unique characteristics.In particular,the system is examined based on histories and current situation of the teaching,objectives of the teaching,textbook compilation system and writing training system.In Part 3,an emphasis is placed upon discussing features and strategies for Hong Kong teaching of writing to train students' writing and thinking skills,in an attempt to improve students' writing and thinking skills in Mainland China.Part 4 focuses on introducing concepts for guiding teaching of writing in Hong Kong,in order to optimize the concepts for teaching writing in Mainland China,and discussing the enlightenments for the teaching of writing in Mainland China based on a range of methods for guiding writing.Part 5 mainly explores Hong Kong models for evaluating writing based on significance of writing evaluation and methods of composition correction.Diversified correction methods of Hong Kong are studied,so as to propose student-oriented ideas for Mainland China's composition correction.The teaching of writing in Hong Kong is comprehensively and systematically discussed from the perspective of writing courses,concepts for guiding the teaching and teaching practices by integrating theories with practices,in order to know about related advanced outcomes and latest developments.Improvements can be made by learning from others.This paper is enlightening for Mainland China to solve its problems with teaching of writing in terms of ideas and methods.
