Musical education during primary school is an important cornerstone in building a solid background for students' and can be a foundation for future accomplishments.The art of singing plays an important role in both national and regional early schooling but also has major differences between elementary and middle school practices,materials,and techniques.This thesis analyzes four sets of music teaching materials from Mainland China,Taiwan,and Hong Kong in order to discuss their similarities and differences,provide connection and mutual understanding between the three regions,and to serve as a reference for future research.This thesis contains two sections.The first section discusses the significance of teaching singing in elementary music education.This is done through analyzing the impact of singing in both physical and mental aspects as well as the importance of singing in the music curriculum in modern schools to show the significance of teaching singing in elementary school music education.The second section discusses teaching singing in general education and compares four editions of music textbooks from Mainland China,Hong Kong,and Taiwan.These textbooks are compared for the total number of songs in each edition,the variance in genres,teaching methods for each song,and overall lesson plan for key points of understanding.
