The education until now,has been developed like river,pushing forward it's wave.As the same as the river,education also has its original source and it's own direction.The development of education and Chinese traditional culture blend and permeate mutually,influencing students by a variety of forms which are in the textbooks.As a course of the humanities,Chinese links strongly to students' life and their thought in many academic disciplines,has more proved this point of view.Chinese teaching material is a very important part of the history of the curriculum reform of elementary education.Not only is the embodiment of the program objective and the educational objective,but also a kind of expression of a value orientation of education development.It is an important basis and clue of teaching activities and the development of teachers' and the students' thought.It is importance now can be evidented by itself.Taiwan and Mainland China share the same origin.Taiwan's culture is originated from the profound traditional Chinese culture.Despite of historical vicissitudes,traditional Chinese culture has a huge impact on Taiwan's educational practices.The knowledge,ethnics,ceremonial customs and spiritual faiths bred in the history course of the Chinese nation have been well-preserved in Taiwan's educational system and advocated by Taiwan's scholars.This paper adopts Chinese textbooks published by People's Education Publishing House in Mainland China and by Hanlin Publishing Co.,Ltd.in Taiwan,respectively.Literature research method,comparative research method and content analysis are combined to deeply analyze selected texts in the two textbook versions.Then,from the perspective of the major community orientation,ethic emotional orientation,perfectionism orientation and life orientation,the value orientation reflected by the compilation of the two textbook versions is analyzed;differences of the value orientation of the two textbook versions are summarized;and causes of the differences are examined.Based on enlightenment of Chinese textbooks published by Hanlin Publishing Co.,Ltd.,suggestions for the reform of the Chinese textbooks published by People's Education Publishing House are put forward.This paper consists of five parts.Mainly introduces the research purpose,research question,research methods and the framework of the whole paper.Chapter 1 elaborates on connotation and core concepts of traditional Chinese culture,its connection with Chinese teaching and its role in Chinese teaching.Chapter 2 analyzes selection and reflection of textbooks in terms of the major community orientation,ethic emotional orientation,perfectionism orientation and life orientation based on selected texts of the two textbook versions.Differences of the two textbook versions are also compared,and causes behind the differences are pondered over.Chapter 3 points out differences of the two versions of Chinese textbooks for primary school students in reflecting the traditional Chinese culture in terms of Chinese characters,mother tongue,classic poems,etiquette and folk customs.Chapter 4 reflects on compilation of Chinese textbooks for primary school students in Mainland China.Based on the above analysis results and the enlightenment of the version published by Hanlin Publishing Co.,Ltd.,suggestions for reform of the textbook published by People's Education Publishing House are proposed.
