The American Tibetologist Robert Ekwall(Robert B.Ekvall)wrote many works in his life,in addition to the greatest impact of Tibetan studies literature and translation are also involved.This paper considers him in the fields of creation,analyze his academic achievements and ideas.This paper consists of three parts include introduction,text and conclusion,the text includes the following three parts:The first chapter,the life of Ekvall.This chapter divided his life into three stages,youth,fieldwork period and academic study period.Ekvall's parents are Christian missionaries of CMA,he spend his childhood with his parents in China.In 1912,after the death of his father he returned to the United States.In 1923,he came back to China as a missionary and engaged in missionary work in Gansu.In 1925,he came into Tibet,and spend eight years in this place,this also for lay a solid foundation for his Tibetology research.In 1937,Ekvall entered University of Chicago to pursue a master's degree in philosophy,which start the beginning of his anthropological research.Ekvall is not only a Tibetologist,missionaries,or an American soldier,the biography part introduces his military career.The second chapter is an analysis of Ekvall's works.This chapter will divided his study into nomadic anthropology,religion,literature,political system of Sa Skya four categories.The first section of the Tibetan nomadic anthropology research first chronologically comprehensive combing this part of Ekvall's papers and monographs,detailed introduction of the main content of the thesis and monographs finally,from the environmental factors,and settled in Tibetan nomadic Tibetans,nomadic character,five aspects of Nomadic Society of war and peace and the Tibetan nomadic society population comprehensive comparative study,analysis of the academic thought.The second section first summarizes religious research achievements,a brief introduction of each item.The third section is divided into biography,fiction and opera three parts,detailed introduce the main contents of each parts.In the fourth section,the book of "A Tibetan Principality:the political system of Sa Skya" is core of the study.he made a brief evaluation.The third chapter analyze research methods and academic influence of two aspects of Ekvall's academic writings.In 1962 Ekvall hosted the "Tibet Social Culture Symposium",provides a large number of studies of the meeting with the fieldwork together for the study.Moreover,scholars from different disciplines cooperation,create a lot of cross-cultural achievements.In the meeting,four Tibetans has an important influence on Ekvall's study,many views of the political system of Sa Skya are from the four Tibetans.The conclusion is a summary of Ekvall's life and academic research results and puts forward some thoughts of my own to related research on China.
