The Competitiveness Evaluation And International Comparison Of China's Emerging Strategic Industries

After the financial turmoil in 2008,the world's major countries and regions such as China,US,Japan and EU have determined the strategic emerging industry to be one of the major strategies in the economic growth.And in the background of economic globalization,the international competition of strategic emerging industries increases gradually as well.Whether China,as a developing country,has any competitive advantages over other more developed countries must be of concern.This article mainly emphasizes on the international competitiveness of China's strategic emerging industry.And we further compare China's international competitiveness with that of other developed countries such as Japan and US.The biggest difficulty of this paper is to obtain the trade data of strategic emerging industry,so we first dual match the strategic emerging industry catalog and the international trade products list.This article selects every HS(version 2012)commodity code of the UN COMTRADE database to fit in with the "strategic emerging industries directory"(2012 Edition).And then we process and classify the above data,in order to establish the trade product database of the strategic emerging industry.Basing on the prcoducts database of the strategic emerging industry and the import and export trade data extracted from the UN COMTRADE database,we measure and calculate the index of international competitive power of China's strategic emerging industries.As a result,this study shows that China exhibits significant international competitiveness in the information technology industry and the new energy industry.Besides,in the new energy automotive industry,the energy saving,the environmental protection industry,and the high-end equipment manufacturing industry,China also has some competitive advantage.However,China has significant weakness in the new material industry and the bio-pharmaceutical industry.Well compared with the developed countries,China still falls behind.Especially in the energy saving and environmental protection industry as well as the new materials industry,China is far behind the European Union,South Korea,Japan and the US.In light of this study,all the conclusions above can be useful in the policy making process of China's strategic emerging industry.In addition it can help position the strategic emerging industry more precisely in China,and be a good reference for individual enterprises in strategic emerging industries.
