An Analysis Of The Intermediate Producer Services Impact On The Export Sophistication Of Manufacturing

With the development of intra-industry trade,as well as the deepening of the international division of labor,in order to find way out from the bottom of the value chain,China began to step up the pace of industrial restructuring.Based on the trade data of manufacturing and producer services between 2000 and 2014,this paper measures the technical sophistication indicators of manufacturing exports and intermediate service imports for 42 countries.This paper then analyzes the mechanism that how the technical sophistication of the manufacturing industry is affected by the technical level of the intermediate service on the basis of the endogenous growth model and the theory of enterprise heterogeneity,and empirically test the mechanism with the panel data.Finally,some policy opinions are put forward.The empirical results show that the technical sophistication of a country's service intermediate services imports plays a significant role of promoting the overall level of export technology in the country's manufactring sectors.So do the services sectors with different technical level.However,when we subdivide the manufacturing into different sectors with different technical level,there's no longer significant regularity.Furthermore,the sample is grouped at the per capita income level,and as a relatively low-income country,China's import structure of its producer services inhibits the technological progress of the manufacturing sectors.At the same time,in the study of control variables,it is found that there is a reverse relationship in the low-income countries between the export technology and the R&D investment,which is measured by the number of patent applications.
