Tang Chang'an City Tourism Special Research

It is the first thing that to find out the meanings of "tourism" in the Tang Dynasty. In this paper, the definition of tourism of the Tang Dynasty in Chang 'an city is that tourists traveled to the destinations temporarily for the purpose of leisure and entertainments, and returned to the original places.The meanings of tourism from connotation to extension are very different between the Tang Dynasty and today. The modern tourism is a part of the cultural industry, which emphasizes on its economic properties. However the tourism in the Tang Dynasty was a branch of cultural activities which emphasized on its cultural attributes. Therefore, it is important that understanding the differences and similarities between modern and ancient tourism for the research of ancient Chinese tourism.Tourism activities of the Tang Dynasty in Chang 'an city included enjoy flowers such as peach blossoms, peonies, lotuses and chrysanthemums in the gardens. Tuan Cheng-shih not only enjoyed the beautiful scenery and local conditions of customs, but had the professional knowledge of historical buildings and vigorous buddhist culture. Ennin focused his attention to learn Buddha dharma, understand the doctrine of Buddhism, met with the senior monks and participated in the Buddhism conferences.Qujiang which attracted lots of tourists was a public place of the Tang Dynasty in Chang 'an city.Tourism in Qu-Jiang, Xing-Yuan and Giant Wild Goose Pagoda played an important role in Chang 'an city.People in the Tang Dynasty had Lots of official holidays(the Lantern Festival; the Shang-si Festival; Cold Food Festival; Tomb-sweeping Day; Zhonghe festival and Qianqiu festival). with the rapid development of the economy and society, the festival activities in the Tang Dynasty were less mysterious, while the characteristics of entertainment became more and more distinctly. Therefore, there are many different kinds of tourism activities of the Tang Dynasty in Chang 'an city.Tourism activities were not very flourishing in 618 A.D. However, one century later, the activities had reached the peak in the Tang Dynasty. Since 825 A.D, tourism of the Tang Dynasty in Chang 'an city was profane. There were several tourism attractions in Chang 'an city.Tourism of the Tang Dynasty in Chang 'an city was the typical representative of ancient tourism in the history.
