Industry updating is the only way to be passed in the process of urban development. Some metropolitan areas in west developed countries, where both manufacturing industries and service industries are transferring into the sectors of intensive-knowledge industries, have embarked on the era of knowledge economy. The development of intensive-knowledge in these areas base on the cultivation of academic talents and continuous innovation of technology and these developed areas which create enormous wealth because of always occupying the top of the whole industrial chain remarkably affect the development of global industries and direction.Because of the advantages of high added value industries of knowledge-intensive industry, developing countries are also actively fostering these industries.Since the 1990s,China's big cities like Beijing and Shanghai have entered the period dominated by service industry and simultaneously manufacturing industry has been continuously upgrading to high-tech industries. After the 21st century, the constant upgrading and division of industry have prompted the China's major cities focusing on the knowledge-intensive industries.Shanghai,as the China's economic center, not only has the excellence industry base, but also is equipped with a large number of universities and scientific research institutions, which provide the necessary prerequisites for the development of knowledge-intensive industry,so it has been developed into an important national industrial base in China. However,it is inadequate for the current research of distribution of knowledge-intensiveindustry in metropolitan areas, besides the synergetic development between manufacturing industry and service industry is also a hot topic to discuss.Base on this, this paper, referring to the theory and method of urban geography and new economic geography, picks dividedly one case from knowledge-intensive manufacturing industry and service industry-medicine manufacturing industry and consulting service industry, which collected from second and third economic census, and through ArcGIS software analyses their spatial distribution in Shanghai metropolitan apart in 2008 and 2012,and further analyses the spatial distribution of new enterprises increased during the period between 2008 and 2012,which are given to explore the evolution of geographical distribution of these two industries. To move one step further the paper also research the influence factors on spatial distribution of these two industries by adopting metering methods and finally try to explore the synergistic development between knowledge-intensive manufacturing and service industry from two perspectives, spatially and industrially.Through the analysis the paper have found that compared to the consulting industry which as a whole shows a remarkable centripetal distribution and at the same time also centralized small-scale in the periphery,by contrast medicine industry prefer to locate in the urban periphery in Shanghai, and we also found that both of two industries have showed the tendency of distributing on suburban, which both weaken the centralization of these two industries, but consulting industry still have been keeping a much higher degree of agglomeration than medicine industry in Shanghai metropolitan.Furthermore, among the determinants of spatial distribution, the favorable policy drives both medicine and consulting industry to develop. There are also some findings different between medicine industry and consulting industry that former is more sensitive to the resources of scientific research but in contrast consulting industry prefers to attach more importance on the influences of urban agglomeration when considering their location.Besides that,a relatively good situation of synergetic development was found in the research between knowledge-intensive manufacturing industry and service industry in terms of industrial division and spatial distribution.
