Global foreign direct investment is accelerating to gather in the service sector, indicating that the global industrial structural transfer from the previous manufacturing industry to the service industry.Modern service industry as an important component of the service industry has become the strategic high ground of global industrial competition. And it is in the high-end sector of the global value chain and the "smile curve".It is difficult to replace the leading and promoting role in the sustained and healthy development of the economy. The prosperity of modern service industry has become an important engine of regional economic development and an important commanding point of regional economic competitiveness. In this paper,we use the value-added trade accounting method and the world input-output table data from WIOD to calculate the value-added export of modern service industry in China from 1995-2011.Then we apply the improved revealed comparative advantage index(so-called new revealed comparative advantage index)to compute the export competitiveness of China's modern service industry and the subdivision industry, and compare China with the United States,Germany,Britain,France,Japan and other 14 countries according to the estimations. At last,we make an empirical analysis of the impact on China's modern service industry that involved export competitiveness from capital deepening degree, human capital, the level of intermediate-input domestic supply, labor productivity and export market share by combining the panel data of China's modern service industry in 1995-2009 with the estimation method of two step feasible generalized least squares.Through the comparative analysis and empirical analysis, this paper gets the following conclusions:(1)the value-added export competitiveness of China's modern service industry and the subdivision industry show an upward trend in general during 1995 to 2011.(2)In the segments of China's modern service industry, inland transport, financial media, leasing and other business activities, education are in a position of non-comparative advantage, while water transport and air transport have a shift from non-comparative advantage to comparative advantage.(3)The new revealed comparative advantage index of China's modern service industry show a rising trend in the sample period, but its annual average is only 0.50(China ranks last one in sample countries).(4)In China's modern service industry segments, the new comparative advantage index of inland transport, water transport, air transport, and education is ranked in the middle and lower reaches in the sample countries during the sample period, while leasing and other business activities, financial media ranked in the downstream.(5)There is a significant positive correlation between human capital, the level of intermediate-input domestic supply, labor productivity and export market share. The influence of capital deepening on the export competitiveness of modern service industry is non-line.The depth of the modern service industry about capital deepening and the export competitiveness exhibit the characteristics of “inverted U relationships”.In the end,the paper puts forward the corresponding policy recommendations.
