Research On Shanghai Convention And Exhibition Industry Cluster And Its Influencing Factors

MICE industry as a new modern service industry,is becoming one of the important driving forces of economic and social development in China.Shanghai as the MICE metropolis of China,has made it clear that it is necessary to become “International EXPO Centre”.With this background,the paper comprehensive use the theories and research methods of Urban Geography,Economic Geography,and Industrial Economics,to analyse the present situation,industry connecting effect and influence factors of Shanghai MICE industry cluster.Based on the above,several suggestions were proposed to provide a useful reference for Shanghai to build “International MICE Centre” or even “Outstanding Global City”.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part is chapter 1,which is including the research background,research significance,research methods and data resources and so on.The second part is chapter 2,including literature review and summary of relevant theories.The third part including chapter 3,chapter 4,and chapter 5,which is the major elements of the paper.This part comprehensive use the methods and theories of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis by using ArcGIS analysis tool,Grey Relational Analysis,and literature reading method,to study the present situation,development trend,space distribution,industry connecting effect and influence factors of Shanghai MICE industry cluster.The fourth part is chapter 6,which provided several policy advices for Shanghai by using Porter Diamond Model,summarizes the main conclusions and the field of research in the future.The major conclusions of this thesis are as follows.(1)The spatial distribution of the MICE industry cluster in Shanghai shows that there is a centre of the cluster,which is located in Huangpu District,Jing’an District,northern Xuhui District,eastern Changning District;(2)The MICE industry cluster of Shanghai has a strong industry connect with insurance industry,hotel and catering industries also have relevant with the MICE industry cluster in Shanghai;(3)The major influence factors of MICE industry cluster in Shanghai are as follows: transaction cost,knowledge spillover and learning effect,scale effect,close to market principles,related industry,traffic conditions,production factors and government intervention;(4)The MICE industry in Shanghai should cooperate with government.Finally,several advices are proposed in chapter 6 to improve the development of MICE industry in Shanghai.
