Research On The Border Effect Of The Sub-regional Economic Cooperation Of The Northwestern China And Central Asia

The cooperation of China and the central Asian countries has a long time,in the time of the Western Han Dynasty,Zhang Qian has opened up the ancient Silk Road which promoted the trade cooperation to the new heights.With the changes of dynasties,the trade cooperation of ancient Silk Road also changed constantly.Now,"the Silk Road Economic Belt" strategy will promote the Shanxi,Gansu,Xinjiang,Qinghai and Ningxia's economic development moving forward,and on the basic of transportation,energy,investment and trade operation between northwestern China and Central Asia,the "Silk Road Economic Belt" strategy will provide opportunities for the deep cooperation of these provinces and countries.At the same time,there are many differences in economy,politic,culture between northwestern China and Central Asia,and it is difficult to reconcile the the policy of regional economic cooperation.So northwestern China and Central Asia did not establish the Free Trade Area.But in the 90 s,the development of sub-regional economic cooperation has provided a new idea for the northwestern China and Central Asia which will increase their inter-dependency in trade and economy that can realize common development and benefit sharing.However,the geographical proximity of sub-regional economic cooperation is strongly influenced by the border,forming a boundary effect,affecting the cooperation between them.First of all,this paper researched the sub-regional economic cooperation of northwestern China and Central Asia from the perspective of the border effect based on the analysis of relevant background and the literature reviews.Secondly,this paper analyzed the current situation of trade,investment and industry of the sub-regional economic cooperation of the Northwestern China and Central Asia.Then this paper described the impact of border effect from six aspects included the level of regional economic development,industrial structure complementarity,the construction of infrastructure,the development of science and technology,diverse national culture and regional security issues.Third,this paper established econometric model for the empirical analysis to study the current situation of border effect of the sub-regional economic cooperation of the Northwestern China and Central Asia,the results show that this sub-regional cooperation have faced border shielding effect in2010-2015,but the trend is decreasing by years.And the paper made relevant explanation of the results about the quantitatively analyze of relevant factors effecting trade and border effect.Finally,on the basis of the previous studies,the paper put forward some constructive suggestions to break through the border shielding effect to carry a better cooperation of Northwestern China and Central Asia.
