In recent years, urban rail transit gradually becomes the effective way to solve the problem of city because of its large capacity,fast,efficient,safe,energy-saving and environmental protection etc.,While as for its high cost, the necessity of the construction should be judged according to the actual situation of urban social and economic development level and traffic level. At present, the ground transportation is still as the leading public transportation in Kunming. The traffic pressure is so high that the traffic structure needs to be updated and restructuring.Visibly, the analysis of the urban rail transit competitiveness is very necessary. In this paper, the author sums up the present situation and development of urban rail transit in domestic cities, foreign cities and Kunming with the methods of literature research and case analysis. Then through the principal component analysis(pca),the author builds up the urban rail traffic competitiveness model from travel cost, transport efficiency, service quality and environmental protection.Next,we use the model of system to Kunming urban rail transit as the research object to verify the validity of the model. And through the comparisons of rail transit and other transportation we evaluate the competitiveness of the Kunming urban rail transit.Based on the above, the author makes some suggestions and comments to Kunming city rail transit from "clearing the rail transit in the near future and long-term development","improving the rail transit financing","properly handling rail transit site connection problem","completing the regional rail transit system","strengthening the construction of rail transit culture",which provides the theoretical reference and practical decision support.
