Gun issue is one of the most controversial and divisive issues in the United States.Gun control advocates and gun rights activists are at daggers drawn.America allows its citizens to have easy access to guns while suffering from the scourge of gun violence. The paper is an attempt to discuss the gun issue through the lens of gun economy.Gun economy is composed of the supply of guns, produced by the gun industry, and the demand for guns, consumed by the gun consumers. For one thing, the gun industry is a major and powerful industry with a long history and historical implications in America. The gun industry is an important force to be reckoned with and has enormous economic impact, presenting lucrative profits, generating huge taxes, and creating many jobs. For another, guns are in great demand in America due to various reasons.Americans keep and bear guns for self-defense,recreation,hunting,collection,or the exercise of constitutional right. The gun industry employs commercials and innovation to spur gun consumption and maintain and expand market share. Some believe that the gun politics is responsible, while others hold that the gun culture is to blame. The paper aims to prove that the gun economy lies behind the gun issue in the United States. All stakeholders in the gun economy will do whatever they can to protect and expand their interests. The gun economy is the driving force behind the gun issue as well as the gun politics and the gun culture. It is the supply of and demand for guns that is at work in the context of America. The powerful gun industry and the great demand for guns call for the production and consumption of guns. The joint force of the supply and demand promotes the development of the gun industry and prevents the settlement of the gun issue. The gun economy and the gun economics employed in the paper is a new way to explore and explain the gun issue in America.
