Research On Development Of Beef Cattle Industry In Yunnan Province

Since the reform and opening in China,the beef cattle industry vigorously developed.Beef production,total consumption,and per capita consumption are growing rapidly in China,which indicates beef cattle industry is becoming more important in the animal husbandry economy.The problem whether beef is supplied adequately,is related to the stable consumption by urban and rural residents,the increase of income for cattle raisers,and the balanced development of social economy,which is especially sensitive in the frontier minority areas.Yunnan province is one of the major beef cattle producers in China,where the breeding stocks are the top.Accelerating the development of beef cattle industry in Yunnan province,is of great importance to the growth of animal husbandry economy and farmer richness in local area.In the present study,the current situation of beef cattle breeding,processing,logistics and consumption in Yunnan province was analyzed,combined with field investigation and statistical information,and the prominent problems in each link were explored.Grey correlation model was used to analyze the factors influencing the development of beef cattle industry in Yunnan.The results showed that,beef cattle breeding industry developed late in Yunnan,and there were many problems emerging in current situation.The foundation was weak,production efficiency was low,market circulation mechanism was immature,industrial layout was unreasonable,and the science and technology support was unsubstantial.The factors restricting the beef cattle industry in Yunnan could be concluded based on qualitative analysis as follows,i.e.macro policies,pasture resources,and ethnic dietary habit.By the analysis of grey correlation theory model,it was also indicated that people's income level,the number of breeding animals,forage yield,per capita consumption and national economic conditions had important impacts on beef cattle industry development in Yunnan.It is necessary to accelerate beef cattle industrialization,change the production mode from traditional breeding to modern industry,and solve the contradiction between small-scale production and national market demand.Finally,policy recommendations are put forward.It is suggested that,beef cattle industry layout and warning mechanism should be further strengthened,scientific and technological support should be improved,new operators and social service system should be constructed,and beef market circulation mechanism should be enhanced,in order to promote the development of beef cattle industry in Yunan.
