Research On The Diffusion Mechanism Of Superior Enterprises' Transformation And Upgrading Behavior In The Industrial Clusters

In the last opening up 30 years,China's economy obtained comparative advantage in the international competition depending on the advantages of production factors.But the factor-driven business model of Chinese enterprises came to an end with the change of domestic and international economic environment,and then transformation and upgrading becomes the inevitable choice to survive for China's industry and enterprise.In this context,Chinese government has frequently issued policies such as adjusting the mode of economic growth and promoting industrial transformation and upgrading.Some superior enterprises have responded positively to meet their own needs and respond to government policies,while more enterprises are still on the sidelines,and some even carrying out a strategic response of remoting or exotic relocation or even shutting down the field,leading to a slow process of industrial transformation and upgrading.Therefore,this paper attempts to explore the diffusion mechanism of the superior enterprises' transformation and upgrading in the industrial clusters,and to dig the successful reasons that superior enterprises drive the transformation and upgrading of latecomer firms.Based on literature researching on transformation and upgrading,institutional theory,theory of resource and capacity,the author do the logical deduction and propose a preliminary research framework.Then we choose knitwear enterprises in Dalang Town of Dongguan as the research object of this paper,and conduct corporate interviews.After analysis and discussion of multi-case,the author obtains the final theoretical model and the main conclusion of this paper,and show the dynamic evolution process of transformation and upgrading behavior in industrial cluster,just as follow:(1)At the initial stage,superior enterprises' transformation and upgrading behavior plays the initiative on institutional environment of industrial cluster based on multi-agent interaction;(2)At Mid-diffusion stage,the institutional environment of industrial cluster plays a significant role on latecomer firms' transformation and upgrading based on "efficiency mechanism",among which the informal institutional factors play a leading role.The resource and capability of latecomer firms plays a significant effect on its transformation and upgrading,among which the resource-base of latecomer firms plays a leading role.(3)At the late stage of evolution,The legitimacy of the transformation and upgrading behavior makes a positive effect both on the improvement of institutional environment and the optimization of the latecomer firms' resource and capability in the industrial cluster,which in turn make a significant effect on its transformation and upgrading.Specifically,"efficiency mechanism" and "legitimacy Mechanism " with the guidance of formal institution and latecomer firms' resource-dependence both play a leading role.Generally,diffusion of transformation and upgrading behavior is a dynamic and collaborative evolution process with multi-agent.The diffusion of superior enterprises' transformation and upgrading behavior in the industrial clusters is the products of marketization based on the "efficiency mechanism",and then effected by "efficiency mechanism" with the guidance of informal institution and latecomer firms' resource-base.Finally,It's effected by "efficiency mechanism" and "legitimacy Mechanism " with the guidance of formal institution and latecomer firms' resource-dependence.This paper not only combines the interaction between micro-firms and macro-institutional environment in industrial clusters,but also analyzes the evolution process of transformation and upgrading behavior in industrial clusters at the dynamic perspective,and establishes a corresponding theoretical framework.This will not only expand the connotation of transformation and upgrading to provide a new perspective and strong evidence for the study of firm' transformation and upgrading in China,but also enrich the existing institutional theory in analyzing the interaction between the superior enterprises and other actors at different stages,and the process of the interaction for the institution from different dimensions of institution.In addition,it's a useful complement to the theory of resource capacity to innovatively study the diffusion process from the perspective of latecomer firm' resource and capability.All in all,the article attempts to research the diffusion mechanism of superior enterprises' transformation and upgrading behavior in the industrial clusters,which will make a practical significance on firms' strategic decision and the government's institutional arrangements.
