E-wastes have been increasingly generated, which has brought environmental burdens in most countries, especially in rapidly developing countries. With the unprecedented industrialization and urbanization,China has faced more serious problems concerning household e-wastes.Moreover,informal e-waste collecting has brought environmental burden due to improper treatment of invaluable parts of e-wastes.Thus,formal e-waste collecting enterprises have emerged with support from the government, but it is still difficult for them to survive. Many residents don't accept formal e-waste collection.According to the fact that the standardized development of our e-waste collection industry is still in the initial stage, the influence of the industry development is not very clear as well. Thus,it is of significance to study the barriers of e-wastes collection and its realization path in China, which will assist in making decision for government and enterprise.Based on the study and review on the relative theories of e-waste and previous studies,as well as integrating the practices and market research of e-waste collection, the research questions have been put forward and three steps have been taken in this thesis.First, this thesis contributes to systematically identifying barriers for formal channels of household e-waste collection in China considering different stakeholders such as the government, households, collectors, and treatment plants based on the perspectives from experts in e-wastes formal collecting enterprises.Second, this thesis develops three steps based on the method of grey-based Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory(DEMATEL)to reveal the most serious barriers in both the short and the long term by examining causal and effect relationships among these barriers. The results show that households' habit of selling e-wastes to peddlers is a key barrier, which should be carefully considered in the short term.Support from the government such as providing subsidy and tax reduction for formal collecting enterprises is elemental. Finally,we study the realization path for e-waste collection from three aspects: households, government and enterprise. At the residential level,we utilize a conjoint analysis experiment to further study e-waste collecting.Based on the pre-test and semi-structured interview, six main attributes of collecting services have been identified, and conjoint experiment is utilized to study residents' preferences of attributes and simulated collecting modes. The results of the preference study show that: collecting price, compensation method and information security service are also very important, while collecting channels and collecting modes are less important.
