The Development Strategy Of Wuyi Rock Tea Industry In Fujian Province,China

Wuyi rock tea is a unique Oolong tea produced in Mount Wuyi area in Fujian province,China,named for its growing in between the gaps of rocks.Wuyi rock tea is seen as a top class of tea because of its distinct aroma and flavors described as ’the charm of rocks",which is characterized by the balance between the tastes of delicate green tea and mellow black tea.Wuyi rock tea was granted as a product of National geographical indication,and is the most featured agricultural product in Wuyishan city,thus its industry is of great importance in the development of regional agricultural economy.Therefore,this study investigated the environmental conditions including the qualities of soil and air in Wuyi rock tea production area;moreover,the status quo of Wuyi rock tea industry was analyzed in depth,and its technical system establishment requirements were concluded;based on these,a development strategy for Wuyi rock tea industry was brought up with the reference to a demonstration corporate.The results of this work will contribute to the industrial development of Wuyi rock tea in Fujian province,and also provide referencing foundation for the development of provincial Oolong tea industry.The main results of this study are listed as below:(1)Nine representative tea gardens from the production area of Wuyi rock tea in Wuyishan City were selected for the monitoring and analysis of soil and air conditions.The results suggested that both the qualities of the soil and air reached the first grade without pollution,which indicated that the superior natural ecological environment around Mount Wuyi provided a favorable basis for Wuyi rock tea production.(2)The strength,weakness,opportunity and threaten analyses were applied to the status quo of Wuyi rock tea industry.The strengths of Wuyi rock tea industry included its natural environmental conditions,unique geographical location,ample germplasm resources,long-standing tea culture,affluent labor force,and strong politically support;nevertheless,the weaknesses of this industry lay in its limited scale of operation,incomplete quality management system,insufficient technical investment,restricted market expansion,and immature service system;in addition,the opportunities for the development of Wuyi rock tea industry were summarized as the rise of consumption on green product,the governmental policies support,and the internet economy prosperity;however,the main threatens for this industry are the fierce competition in tea market,the shock from novel beverages,and the green technique barrier in international trade.(3)The establishment of technical system for Wuyi rock tea industry was concluded in following sections:the cultivation and quality management,the packaging and storage specification,the HACCP system,the product traceability,and marketing pattern.(4)Therefore,the development strategies for Wuyi rock tea industry were proposed in terms of strengthening the construction and management of tea garden,reinforcing the technical support for better tea quality,completing the standardization of growing and processing operations,enhancing the supervision on tea quality and market behavior,improving the traceability of the product,creating leading enterprise and famous brands,optimizing the marketing strategy,and promoting the cultural expansion with tourism resource.(5)An empirical analysis was conducted with the example of Wuyishan Taoyuanming Tea Science Research Institutional Limited Company.The cultivation,processing and product were tested,and the results indicated that the conditions of soil,air and irrigation water in the tea garden met the corresponding production standards,and the product was free of pesticide residual;moreover,this company had created effective economical and social benefits locally with Wuyi rock tea,and thereby the strategy and management of this company could be a useful case for the development of Wuyi rock tea industry.
