The variability of the market competition environment has tested the development of small and medium-sized businesses to a large extent.If companies want to survive and achieve development,they must strive to improve their management level,enhance their ability to respond to changes in the external environment to ensure that long-term benefits can be realized.At present,small and medium-sized businesses in China have generally realized that performance management plays a major role in promoting the development of enterprises.However,traditional performance management has many limitations,such as over-single indicator selection,failure to consider changes in external conditions,and focusing on short-term performance results.It has not been able to help the company’s long-term development.The Balanced scorecard is an innovative performance management tool that has been widely used by foreign companies and has produced good results.Chinese companies are also actively exploring and experimenting with it.However,the current use of the balanced scorecard is large.Most of them are still large enterprises.There are still very few cases in which small and medium-sized businesses use balanced scorecard to perform performance management.In fact,many small and medium-sized businesses have strengthened their basic management capabilities by constantly improving their organizational structure and actively introducing efficient information management systems.They have already achieved the basic conditions for the application of balanced scorecards.Therefore,the paper hopes that the balanced scorecard was introduced into the performance management of small and medium-sized businesses to help them establish and develop core competitive advantages,and help enterprises achieve sustainable development.First of all,based on the research of related literatures,this paper summarizes the relevant theories and applied research of balanced scorecards at home and abroad.Subsequently,this paper selects A glass company as the object of the case study.Through field research,it learned and deeply analyzed the defects existing in A company’s current performance management system,and designed a five-dimensional balanced scorecard framework including the dimension of environmental protection based on study of the company’s overall strategic objectives,characteristics of small and medium-sized businesses and the characteristics of the glass industry.If an enterprise wants to successfully introduce a balanced scorecard,it must have clear strategic objectives,highly efficient information communication mechanism,and sufficient attention of management and other conditions.Through research,it is found that A company meets the above implementation requirements.This helps the balanced scorecard maximize its advantages and helps the company establish more reasonable and effective incentive mechanisms,improve the company’s management and control,and provide support for the company’s strategic objectives.
