With the intensification of the globalization process of the international community,the market environment is changing rapidly,and the competition among enterprises is becoming increasingly fierce.Especially the information technology industry enters the era of big data;the speed of information technology of iteration is beyond our imagination.The optical communications industry is facing enormous pressures and challenges in such a large environment.So companies want to develop,they must continue to innovate,start new projects,develop new products,and meet new market demands.Therefore,business leaders have higher expectation and requirements for project managers on the schedule of new product development projects,so it is very important for project managers to choose which methods for the progress management of new product development projects.In today's traditional projects schedule management,CPM and PERT are representative of the traditional schedule management.The biggest disadvantage of these two management methods is no better scientific assessment and logical control in the actual progress implementation of the project.And the critical chain project management which was proposed by Dr.Goldratt can solve these problems very well.This method can manage uncertainties(including human behaviors)very well,which makes the whole project run smoothly and improves the economic efficiency of the entire project.This report will compare and analyze the traditional project progress management method(CPM/PERT)and the critical chain-based schedule management method from two aspects of theory and practice.Theoretically,eliminating the safe time in the critical chain management method would be used to solve the problem of project delay caused by the student syndrome and Parkinson's law that often appear in the project;A detailed introduction and analysis would be made about the problem of buffer setting based on the critical chain management method,clearly illustrating how to set the size of the buffer,and how to effectively control the buffer consumption.In the specific practice verification,Project 2007 software and Oracle Crystal Ball software will be used as research-practice technical tools.The Monte Carlo method will be used to do simulation for the traditional project schedule management method(CPM/PERT)and the critical chain project schedule management method in the new product development project.Verify the reliability of theoretical comparisons that the critical chain management method is better than the traditional project management method in new product development project.The critical chain method can resolve schedule delay and low effective work status in actual project management.By comparing the above two methods from two aspects of theory and simulation practice,we could clearly see that the critical chain management method can better prevent and handle the uncertain factors in the new product development project implementation process.It will bring the practical guidance methods for project managers.The critical chain management method has more realistic guiding significance.
