A Dual Case Study On Institutional Logic Evolution Of Social Enterprises WX And LL

Social enterprises are hybrid organizations that combine the dual characteristics of both business and non-profit organizations.They also include commercial logic and social welfare logic.Social enterprises advocate the use of market principles to provide people with social services,and they can achieve social goals while maintaining their own sustainable development.As a “fourth driving force” social enterprises promote social development beyond the government,market,and non-profit organizations.the development of social enterprises has gained more and more recognition from the academic community.The social enterprise contains two competing institutional logics: commercial logic and social welfare logic.It is considered to be the best example of the study of hybrid organizations.The existing research shows that the institutional logic will change with the development of enterprises.However,why and how the institutional logics change and the processes of institutional logics change have rarely been explored.This paper takes two social enterprises in the field of old-age care industry as examples,and conducts research and follow-up on them for half a year.This study through the theme analysis and variable definition,stage identification,content analysis and coding of three rounds of in-depth analysis,to the maximum degree of reproduction of the facts.It strives to objectively grasp the path of social enterprise development and institutional logic reform in China,discusses the choice of institutional logic at each stage of development and the dynamic development process of institutional logic,and uses these studies as basis to explore the profound connotation of the theory behind the facts.Research findings:(1)The hybrid organization solves the competition between institutional logics through selective coupling,thereby reducing the risks and costs of using decoupling or compromise strategies;(2)The institutional logic of a hybrid organization is not static,it can change with changes in the institutional environment,legitimacy,and entrepreneurship.That is,the institutional environment changes and the need for organizational legitimacy are the endogenous variables of the institutional logic evolves at different stages of organizational development.This reveals the dynamic evolution process and mechanism of the hybrid organization.The results of this study will not only help to better understand how these social enterprises are established,operated,and how social entrepreneurs respond to the competing logics in the development of social enterprises in the context of China,but also well replenish the study of institutional logic evolution.
