Contextual realism is a meta-physical interpretation put forward by Richard H.Schlagel after the analysis of knowledge, truth and real problems of traditional philosophy at the stage of the development of science in the 20 th century. The specific ideas are presented in the book “Contextual realism: A meta-physical framework for modern science” published by Richard H.Schlagel in 1986.Richard H.Schlagel's contextual realism combines the problems of knowledge, truth and reality with the achievements of scientific research, and criticizes traditional philosophers' views on knowledge, truth and reality.By drawing on the influence of contemporary scientific theory on philosophy,it reinterpretations of knowledge, truth and reality, and put forward the research framework of contextual realism. This thesis aims to systematically analyze the origins of Richard H.Schlagel's contextual realism, and it's thought of knowledge, truth and reality.Trying to understand the essence of "knowledge, truth and reality" more deeply. Then,it analyzes the foundation of contextual realism, the challenges faced and the significance to the philosophy of science. This thesis consists of seven parts: the introduction, the five systematic expositions and the concluding remarks. The introductory part mainly discusses the reasons for the study of Richard H.Schlagel's contextual realism in this thesis, and briefly analyzes the research status at home and abroad. On this basis,it clarifies the problems to be solved in this thesis, the basic ideas and contents of writing, and explains the research significance of this thesis.Chapter one,the origin of contextual realism. This section mainly analyzes the motives of Richard H.Schlagel's contextual realism.Firstly,it elaborates the traditional philosophers' interpretation of knowledge and reality. Then it discusses the impact of the rise of science on traditional philosophy. Finally,it puts forward the appeal of contextual realism.Chapter two,the epistemology of contextual realism. This section mainly discusses how contextual realism explains the origin and foundation of knowledge, the reality and the contextuality of knowledge.Richard H.Schlagel studies the origin and basic of knowledge from the scientific achievements of neurophysiology and other disciplines. Then it discusses the reality and contextuality of knowledge, and shows that the concept and significance play an important role in the formation of knowledge, and knowledge has a real dependence on contextual.Chapter three, the truth view of contextual realism. This section focuses on the understanding of truth in contextual realism.First,it investigates the generation of the truth and its criteria were clarified. Then the problems of the correspondence theory of truth, the pragmatic theory of truth, and the coherence theory of truth was discussed separately.Richard H.Schlagel tried to show that every criterion of truth has its own applicable condition. Finally, put forward the truth view of contextual realism,it emphasizes that there is no absolute or ultimate truth, and the judgment of truth applies to certain contexts.Chapter four, the real view of contextual realism. This section focuses on the realism of contextual realism.First,it analyzes the traditional realism and points out its limitations. Then it discusses the contextual realism based on science. Finally,it analyzes the incompleteness of contextual realism and knowledge.By clarifying the incompleteness of knowledge,it is concluded that the inexhaustibility of the real world and the reality cannot be the ultimate invariable, but can only be the existence of contextual.Chapter five, the analysis of contextual realism. This part mainly analyzes the theoretical basis and rationality of the theory of contextual realism in the value of the philosophy of science and its shortcomings. The basis of Richard H.Schlagel's contextual realism is illustrated through the discussion of the rationality of science, the criticism of First Philosophy, and the holistic theory of knowledge.Based on this,it analyzes the challenge of contextual realism and its significance to the development of the philosophy of science. In conclusion, summarize the work of the full paper. This part briefly interprets the motives of Richard H.Schlagel's contextual realism, the epistemology, truth and reality of contextual Realism, and analyzes the rationality of the contextual realism, the challenges it faces, and its significance to the philosophy of science. Then it points out the innovations and deficiencies of the thesis. Finally,it forecasts the prospects for the further study of contextual realism.
