Application Research Of System Dynamics In It Project Management

System dynamics is a subject which studies about information feedback system by understanding and solving system problems.This subject is to brings system thinking into project management,especially IT project management.By methods of system dynamics modeling,we can break project management case down and make research on what brings to the change of the case's cost and schedule.This paper introduces the domestic and international research status of system dynamics and project management in the first part.Then,the paper makes a detailed explanation of basic theory of system dynamics.This paper also has a brief introduction of the progress of project management theories,features of IT project management and how to classify different project management cases.Based on system dynamics theory and modeling steps,I established a system dynamics model composed of four subsystem,including basic subsystem,duration subsystem,human resources subsystem,work pressure and overtime subsystem.By analyzing the system dynamic models,my paper explains the cause of “Software Crisis” and proves the classic management law---The Brooks' Law.Comparing the results,my paper also provides the optimal management strategy under different preconditions.The article also raises a more practical significant conclusion by transforming human daily consumption into project funding in detail,which standardizes the measurements of project health.The purpose of my research is to introduce the advantages of using system dynamic method to solve problems and provide a wide vision for conventional project managers.By analyzing the sample cases,we can explain classical phenomenon in project management and provide realistic reference management strategy.I hope my research can provide beneficial references for the researchers in this academic sector.
