In this thesis,eight new flexible Schiff-base ligands have been synthesized from the reactions of some aromatic aldehydes(i.e.o-vanillin,5-bromine-2-hydroxy-3 methoxybenzene and salicylaldehyde)and diamines(i.e.1,10-diaminodecane,1,8-diamino-3,6-dioxaoctane,diethyle-netriamine,2,2'-thiobisethylamine and tris(2-aminoethyl)amine).Six series of twelve 3d-4f complexes were synthesized using these ligands,including 7-nuclear Ni-Ln,8-nuclear Zn-Ln,8-nuclear Cu-Ln,13-nuclear Ni-Ln and 14-nuclear Zn-Ln complexes.All these complexes have been characterized by IR,UV,TG and X-ray crystallography.Their magnetic and luminescence properties have been studied.Interestingly,the 13-nuclear Ni-Ln complex exhibits slow magnetic relaxation behavior.And the 14-nuclear Zn-Ln complexes show typical visible and NIR emissions from Tb3+ and Nd3+ ions,respectively.
