In this thesis, ten flexible Schiff base ligands were synthesized from the reactions of aldehydes(i.e.3,5-dichloro salicylaldehyde,3,5-dibromo salicylaldehyde,5-chloro salicylaldehyde,5-bromide and salicylaldehyde3-bromo salicylaldehyde)and ling-chain diamines containing O and N atoms. These new ligands were characterized by ~1H NMR and IR.A Schiff base ligand was obtained by the reaction of 1,2-double(2-amino-ethoxyl)ethane and o-vanillin,and four series of 11polynuclear 3d-4f complexes were synthesized fromthe reactions of this ligand with the different transition metaland rare-earth metal salts, including 3-metal Cd-Ln,4-metal Cd-Ln,12-metal Zn-Ln,and 14-metal Zn-Ln complexes. These polynuclear complexes werecharacterized by XRDsinglecrystaldiffraction, infraredspectroscopy(IR),thermogravimetric(TG),XRD powder diffraction(XRD),and uv-visible absorption. The study of fluorescence properties shows that these complexes exhibit visible or near-infrared characteristic emission peaks of Er3+,Nd3+,Yb3+,Sm3+,ions.
