Since time immemorial,chopsticks have been an everyday essential in China.They not only serve as dining utensils,but they implicate lots of Chinese traditional culture as well.During their development,chopsticks gradually became a symbol representing Chinese culture[1].As time passes,people's substantial life has been getting better,but their spiritual life has not.this phenomenon can be reflected in many ways and chopsticks products are one of them.According to the market research conducted for this study,most products in the current chopsticks market are similar in form even though they are made from different materials;among chopsticks that were designed with traditional Chinese characteristics,the lack of aesthetics in design is a very common problem;Customers nowadays are more in need for higher quality products due to the 'growth of economy.According to the survey the author conducted,along with the increase of general public's aesthetic needs,most customers are not satisfied with the design of the available chopsticks products.Therefore,the researcher decided to re-design the profile of chopsticks.The researcher conducted a deep research on chopsticks' related areas,using methods of searching,desktop research,field research,e-commerce observation and market research surveys;analyzed the ancient and modern chopsticks' historical development,culture,the pain points of current chopsticks usage,etc...The researcher took inspiration from history,culture and everyday life;improve design by drafts,planning,modeling and 3D rendering repeatedly and trying to apply these insights into the practice of real design.There are six different design proposals included in chapter four and the last proposal was produced as a demonstration.By this essay,the author is hoping to make contributions to the inheritance and development of chopsticks and traditional Chinese culture;and to bring inspirations to the product applications in current chopsticks' market.
