“30%-sewing,70%-ironing” indicates how important the ironing process is.Textile fabric is a complex,multi-layered and porous medium.Under hot and humid conditions,the fabric fibers will expand & stretch due to wetting,and then it can reach expected deformation with little external force.Fabric ironing,which applied by this basic “Hot+Wet=>Set” principle,can archive best fabric quality & appearance by changing fabric structure & surface condition in a certain time range with appropriate temperature,humidity,and pressure,etc.When reviewing ironing development history,it has been improved from earlier electric ironing method to steam ironing method,and steam ironing has been widely applied in textile garment enterprises due to its advantages.But there was very little research on the dimensional change,which is the most important appearance quality of various fabrics after steam ironing.Furthermore,this quality index plays an important role in products QC.Only Mr.Baoqing Zhang & others [1] of Shanghai Textile Industry Institute of Technical Supervision,conducted some research on the influence parameters of the test method of dimensional change after garment ironing.Secondly,the influence of the relevant parameters affecting the ironing quality on the fabric in steam ironing is also insufficiently studied,which leads to the current un-ideal quality control and evaluation system for the fabric after steam ironing.At present,existing methods for the dimensional change of various textiles after ironing,are mainly dry-heat ironing and steam ironing.Today,joint treatment with steaming & ironing is applied widely in factories.This research of this subject has important significance reference for the formulation of such test methods.This thesis mainly uses steam ironing equipment to iron the textiles,and then studies various factors that affect its dimensional change:(1)Research popular steam ironing equipment on stability and minimum human influence on result,and defined flat steam press ironing instrument as main test instrument.(2)Through a large number of ironing related literature research,comparison and analysis,to determine the relevant parameters affecting the quality of ironing.(3)Selected 8 single attribute fabric categories as main subjects: cotton,linen,silk,wool,viscose,polyester,acrylic,and nylon,to determine safe ironing temperature range.(4)By Orthogonal Experiment Method design,also range analysis on data result,figure out optimal steam ironing parameters' combination.This project used univariate analysis method based on influencing factors,and designed experiment by Orthogonal Experiment Method,to study & confirm the optimal parameters selecting for all influencing factors.The specific research results are as follows:(1)Different fiber fabrics have different tolerance to ironing temperature.Among them,cellulose fiber is not very sensitive to temperature,protein fiber has certain sensitivity to temperature,and chemical fiber fabric is most sensitive to temperature,appearance changed significantly when higher than specified temperature.(2)Saturated steam contributes certain humidity to fabric.Its pressure decides the humidity fabric gets.At the same time,the steam pressure has a certain correspondence with the ironing temperature of the fabric.Considering this consistency between fabric ironing temperature & steam temperature,we confirmed the corresponding saturated steam pressure by 8 fibers categories ironing temperature.(3)The ironing pressure has a significant effect on the ironing effect.The most effect of the fabric setting is from the mechanical pressure during the ironing process.Under-pressure will not achieve a good ironing setting effect.Over-pressure will cause iron-shine.(4)The ironing time has a certain influence on ironing result.Under-ironing-time cannot achieve good setting effect.However,if the fabric is ironed too long at a high temperature,it will result in the change of appearance,feeling,and color.Through experiment and analysis,the best ironing time determined;(5)Cooling time has certain influence on fabric setting.The fast cooling time could keep fabric setting well.But too slow cooling time will cause setting disappeared gradually.Therefore,cooling time is also one of the main factors affecting the quality of fabric ironing.Through the analysis of experimental data,each fiber fabric has its optimal cooling time.This project studied the main factors affecting the internal quality and dimensional change of the fabric after steam ironing,with research filtering and optimizing the optimal parameters.It has certain guiding significance for factory garment ironing operation practice & consumer maintenances later on,and can effectively control the quality of products.It also provides uniform testing and evaluation methods for many quality control factories and test laboratories.
